Strawberry Room - Officially a TODDLER

Hello my love,

So sorry, once again, for neglecting to blog. You are growing up so fast and have learned so much in the past couple months. It seems that overnight you went from baby to toddler. You know so many of your animal sounds now (cow, sheep, monkey, dog, cat, duck, crocodile (you snap your hands together), elephant (my favorite as your arm flies above your head and you blow), kangaroo (you hop :), tiger, lion, bear). You know where to find your nose, eyes, ears, mouth and belly button. You say so many words now - hi, bye, coat, water, milk, NO, yes, there, Pa-pa, dog, thank you, book ... and many others - but those are the most used and understood!

You are in transition this week from the Cherry Room (infant community) to the Strawberry Room (toddler community) at school. A little about what you do in Strawberry - first your day starts by me walking to your classroom door - I am no longer able to walk you in to be sure and not interrupt the other children at work. So - you will walk in, take off your outdoor shoes, hang your coat and back pack (which you LOVE to do and are very proud you can do it by yourself) and head to the bathroom. You will learn to toilet all by yourself in time, but here is where the process will begin. Everyday you start there - once you complete toileting, you will put on your indoor shoes and wash your hands. You are then free to work. You can sit for snack any time you would like. You will assist the class in setting the table for lunch. You drink out of a big boy cup at the table now. You will eat with a fork and spoon (which you are already pretty good at) clean up your dishes and set down your nap roll for nap time after lunch. In the afternoon you get time outdoors to roam and play. Your room takes care of plants and you have your very own that you will water and polish the leaves. The class will teach you care of self, grace and care of the environment. You will have circle time where your teachers will read books, sing songs and teach you all kinds of new big boy things. You even have vegetable tastings in the afternoon where you get to try new things all the time. Its going to be so much fun! I am nervous - you will be doing such big boy things in there, but you are relentless and appear to be loving it based on your first report home from the teacher below.

We walked together to the Strawberry room. Titus walked into the classroom by himself. He took my hand and I showed him a car ramp work on the shelf. We took it to a work mat and he used it once then put the work back on the shelf. Next I showed him a work called a pom pom mailbox. He worked with this work for 20 minutes. He really enjoyed it. When he was all done with the work I showed him how to push in his chair and return the work to the proper place on the shelf. Once he put the work on the shelf he immediately choose another work called the knobbed cylinders. After I gave him a lesson he worked with this work for 10 to 15 minutes. After he was done with the knobbed cylinders he choose bead stringing. Once done with this work he choose a counting bead work in which he placed the color beads on the rods. While working Titus observed the other students, and helped Isabella with her shoe that had fallen off. He would smile when he completed a work. He was in the classroom from 8:40 to about 9:40, and was walked back to Cherry with Ms. Amanda. Overall today was great! He seemed happy and very interested in the work on the shelves. He kept busy the entire time. :)
